DOGS Gone Wild 2

Categories for Entries

FRIENDLIEST DOG
For the dog that wants to make everyone his best friend.  The dog should be enthusiastic about meeting the judge… wagging tail, kisses, jumping on the judge, etc.

FASTEST Dog
Handlers give their dogs to one of the judges and move to the other side of the show ring.  When prompted, the judge releases the dog who should run to its owner.  Owners may use whatever they want to lure the dog to run quickly towards them.  Winners are determined by stopwatch.  INSECURE DOGS SHOULD NOT COMPETE IN THIS CATEGORY.

MOST EAR-RISTIBLE EARS
This category is mostly based on opinion.  Judges look for dogs that have ears that they think are really cute, have character or stand out in some way.  They could be extra large or super floppy or have good coloring.

MOST OBEDIENT
Each owner will be given up to 30 seconds to demonstrate basic obedience commands (heel, sit, down, stay, and come) per the judge’s instructions.  The judge may provide distractions during the work (clapping hands, whistling, tossing a ball into the air).  Judges are looking for dogs that pay attention to their owners and have a speedy response to commands.

DIVA DOGS  Judges vote on the dogs with the best costumes.  Extra points for originality.

BEST WAG
Each owner will bring their dog forward to demonstrate their dog’s wag.  The dog should look very happy.  Judges are looking for enthusiastic wagers or dogs with a unique wag.

MOST VOCAL
Contestants are given 30 seconds to get their dog to show off his/her vocals.  Dogs may bark, growl, sing, and howl, whatever.  Judges are looking for dogs that are very loud, have long howls or show great enthusiasm.
DOG MUST EASILY BARK OR HOWL WITHOUT PHYSICAL MANIPULATION OR OWNER FORCING HIM TO (OWNERS SHOULD NOT "BOTHER" THEIR DOGS TO PRODUCE BARKING).

BEST TRICK
Each owner will be given 30 seconds or so to demonstrate their dog’s trick(s).  Owners are allowed to bring props.

MYSTERY MUTT
This is for dogs whose breeding is a mystery!  Judges will give highest scores for dogs where you can’t determine the mix.  In other words… what is that dog??

BEST IN SHOW - This is not a category you enter.  The winner from each category goes on to compete for BEST IN SHOW!

2.       Highly aggressive or insecure dogs will not be allowed to compete.

3.       All dogs must be wearing a training collar or harness.  This is for your dog's protection!  We don't want any dogs becoming frightened and "backing out" of their collars.  Acceptable collars are:

            Premier Collars
            Pinch or Prong Collars
            Harnesses
            Halties or Head Collars

6.       Competitors must arrive in the On-Deck area 15 minutes prior to their event.  Please allow extra time for parking and checking in.

7.       Everyone should focus on having a good time!  Remember, this day is for fun... nothing to be taken too seriously.  Our hope is that you (and your dog) enjoy the day and know that you are helping to raise awareness about homeless animals and how great rescuing an animal can be!

Here's how the show works!
Contestants parade their dog into the show ring and form a line or semi-circle in front of the celebrity judges. For non-active categories, the MC will ask each contestant to step forward and present their dog in front of the judges.  For active categories, each dog will be given the opportunity to perform individually according to the category
.

For the qualifying round, the judge(s) will score each dog to their own liking with a 1-10 value (with the exception of the categories listed below).  The top ten scoring dogs will advance to compete in the Final Round.

In the Final Round, the top dogs in each category will compete.  Judges score each dog to their own liking with a 1-10 value (with the exception of the categories listed below).  Scores will not be presented publicly.

The MC will announce the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each category will receive a ribbon and the 1st place winners will move on to compete in BEST IN SHOW!

Special scoring categories:

Fastest Dog - The owner hands their dog over to the judge and moves to the opposite side of the ring.  The MC announces, "On your mark, get set, GO!" and the judge lets go off the dog while the owner calls the dog to him.  A show ring attendant records the time with a stopwatch.

What is Dogs Gone Wild?

Dogs Gone Wild is a dog show and pet fair celebrating dogs.  It's just like the Westminster Dog show... okay, not really.  In this show, mixed breed and purebred dogs compete in categories such as "Most Vocal," "Mystery Mutt" and more.  It's a day of fun and a way for people to show off their mutts, so nothing is taken too seriously (well, that may not always be true for all contestants).

How does the show work?

Contestants compete in a Qualifying Round judged by one or more experts specific to the category.  The top contestants will be selected and advance to the Final Round.  Qualifying ribbons will be awarded.

In the Final Round, the top contestants strut their stuff in front of a panel of animal loving celebrities.  Second and Third Place ribbons are awarded, and the 1st Place winner of each category moves on to the last category of the day, "Best in Show."  The top three "Best in Show" winners receive great prizes and the 1st place winner is deemed the champion mutt of the show.

Is Dogs Gone Wild a fundraiser?

Yes!  This event will hopefully raise much-needed funds for Precious Purrs & Paws, Inc.  and allows them to continue their work with special needs animals.  All vendor fees, ticket sales, show registrations and additional proceeds directly benefit homeless animals.

Can I bring my dog even if he is not competing?

Yes, all dogs are welcome to come to the show as long as they are friendly with adults, kids and other dogs.

How are the dogs judged?

In the Qualifying Round are judged and the top 10 dogs advance to the Final Round.  In the Final Round, dogs are paraded around the ring by their owners and lined up facing the judges.  Each dog/owner is called forward. The judge assigns a score to each dog.  How the judge chooses to score is entirely up to that individual.  Some categories are judged in a more specific manner, such as "Fastest Runner."
